NEP vs Methamphetamine

Overview

Methamphetamine is a powerful CNS stimulant of the amphetamine class, NEP (N-Ethylpentedrone) is another potent stimulant of the cathinone class. This is a comparison on how they feel and how strong they are compared to each other, based on real experience and pharmacology.

Quick Comparison

Euphoria 7/10 9/10
Stimulation 10/10 9/10
Functionality 10/10 8/10
Duration 1:30h 6-8h
Cravings Extreme High
Comedown Moderate Severe
Insomnia Moderate Severe

Detailed Comparison

Pharmacologically speaking, NEP and methamphetamine don't work the same way. NEP is primarily a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, while methamphetamine not only blocks the reuptake of these neurotransmitters but also actively releases dopamine into the brain. Many people assume this automatically makes methamphetamine stronger, but that isn't necessarily true. Drugs like MDPV are also primarily reuptake inhibitors yet are widely considered even more potent than methamphetamine. In my opinion, what matters isn't just how a drug works, but how strongly it affects those systems and the dopamine spike it ultimately produces. From my personal experience, I'd say the two are very close in overall intensity. Methamphetamine is definitely more euphoric, but NEP is actually the more stimulating drug. Basically, meth gives you a hug, NEP gives you a firm handshake. Another major difference is how the high develops. NEP comes on almost instantly. When insufflated the rush is felt within about twenty seconds, and when smoked it's basically immediate. The rush itself is intense but only lasts around ten or so minutes before transitioning into the main stimulation. Methamphetamine has a much more stable onset. Snorting it usually takes a few minutes before the effects become noticeable, while smoking produces a steady rise over roughly a minute. Instead of launching you straight into the experience, methamphetamine slowly builds up until you're fully stimulated. Interestingly, once both substances have reached their peak, the stimulation itself is indistinguishable. If someone somehow skipped the initial come-up, I doubt they could tell the difference. Where the substances really begin to differ is in their duration and side effects. Methamphetamine is incredibly stable. It brings you up, holds you there for hours and then gradually lets you come down. The downside is that it lasts an extremely long time. For me, the insomnia is brutal and the crashes afterwards are significantly worse than anything I experience with NEP. NEP, on the other hand, is much more chaotic. It doesn't feel like a smooth curve at all. It feels like the drug grabs you by the neck, throws you into the ceiling, lets you fall halfway back down, then immediately throws you up again. That unstable, constantly shifting stimulation is what I think makes NEP so prone to anxiety, paranoia and psychosis. This is probably the biggest downside of NEP. It is one of the twitchiest and most paranoid stimulants I've ever encountered. Even experienced stimulant users often complain about how quickly it becomes paranoid. Personally, if I keep using NEP for around ten hours or more, I start hallucinating heavily, sometimes to the point where it feels almost psychedelic. I've even seen a friend split personality during a binge. NEP is also incredibly fiendish. In my experience, the cravings are almost on the level of pyrros and even worse than crack cocaine. Redosing feels incredibly tempting, which is one of the biggest reasons why sessions can spiral out of control so quickly.

Which Do I Prefer?

I still personally prefer NEP. It is the most comfortable for me at the moment, and to be honest I kinda like how unpredictable it is and how it makes me chaotically tweak out. Overall, I don't think either substance is objectively "stronger". Their overall intensity is extremely similar, but they excel in different areas. Methamphetamine wins when it comes to euphoria, stability and smoothness, while NEP wins in raw stimulation and functional productivity, at the cost of significantly more paranoia.
